OVERHEARD IN THE OFFICE

A Book of Quotes.

While there’s a digital Overheard series, I wanted to create a tangible collection of funny quotes heard around the eBay Enterprise + Magento office. I had amassed over 200 post-it notes full of quotes and originally stuck them onto the walls. The wall space quickly dwindled and ultimately pushed me to produce this book.

I chose to produce this hardcover book by using traditional book binding techniques in order to create a fun juxtaposition between the humorous content and the seriousness of traditional book design.

The cover of this 238-page book features a handmade blind emboss deisgn.

Binding Process.

  • Format

    The format and simple design are inspired by the actual size of a post-it note itself.

  • Hand Bound

    I used traditional book binding techniques to create this book.

  • Home Pressed

    I built a book press to seal the book using the perfect bind technique.

  • Materials

    End sheets match the pale yellow color of the post-it note and the quote wall itself is referenced by a smooth-textured white book cloth.

  • Hard Cover

    I chose to bind this book using extra thick book board to reference the surface of the quote wall.
